There was not much watering down of the Bible when I was growing up.  The “grey” area, as they say, was nonexistent.  Everything I learned was laid out in black and white for me.  You were either going to heaven or hell.  It was a sin, or it wasn't.  You were breaking the rules or following them.  Then in a blink of an eye, it seems as though everything has changed.  What once was considered Biblical truths are now up for debate.  Opinions and feelings matter more than facts.  And, you will be forced to comply or else.

Do you want to know how we got where we are today?  Look no further than watering down the Bible.  Sure many other contributing factors aided in the destruction of our culture.  But ultimately none of these things would have happened without sin.  All of us sin, there is no getting around that.  When you take a sinner and remove a relationship with Christ, then start watering down the word of God, you are destined for failure.  Weakness, laziness, and passiveness all played a part in watering down the Bible.

Watering down the Bible doesn't change God.

God never changes.  So when people water down the Bible, they are trying to justify or excuse their pitiful behavior.  Instead of admitting their sin, they twist and turn the word of God to justify it.  Instead of boldly proclaiming the word of God, they cower under pressure.

The Bible is God's inherent word, spoken through man.  The Bible is a perfect roadmap for how we should live our life.  All watering down the Bible does is put us on the wrong direction.

You will get lost without God.

Imagine using your GPS to travel somewhere you had never been before.  You are solely relying on this tool to get to your destination.  Instead of following the route that is laid out for you, you decide to get off the main road and drive straight through the middle of a field.  You turn your GPS off because you got the jist of it and thought that you could find your way better.  After driving for an hour, you have no idea where you are at.  You thought that your new path would be quicker, better and easier.  Come to find out that you are completely lost.  Instead of turning on the GPS and recalculating your path to get back on track, you continue to drive into the wilderness.

The Bible is our GPS.  It leads us to our destination of Heaven.  When we turn away from it, we get lost and confused.  If we do not come back to the word of God, we may never find our way.  Watering down the Bible is like turning off your GPS.  Instead of taking a clear path laid out by God, we think that we know better.  One of the most frustrating things to watch is a brother and sister in Christ turn off their GPS.  They have the tools they need but choose not to use them.  When pastors water down the Bible, they hand out GPS to everyone in their congregation and tell them not to use them.  They tell them that if you keep driving, you will find your way.

A solid foundation.

I remember as a child hearing the song; The wise man built his house upon a rock”.  I loved that song because it showed me at an early age what it meant to have God in your life or to live life without him.  God is our rock and foundation.  Anything else that we use as our guide will turn to sand.  There are no grey areas folks.  Following God in our life is black and white.  You either chose to follow him or you don't.

Matthew 7:24-27 NASB “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. 26 Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.”
