AMC's The Walking Dead is probably one of the most successful cable shows of all time. For those of you that are unfamiliar with the show, it centers around survivors getting away from walkers. Walkers are dead humans that have become zombies in the after life. While this show is pure fiction, it still commands a huge following from week to week. Many people tune in to see what the main character Rick Grimes next move is going to be. Life as a survivor is a constant struggle and Rick and his group must maneuver carefully though life to survive.
When you think of the term “walking dead,” what is the first thing that comes to mind? Do you think of the popular TV show on AMC? Have you ever thought about it through Biblical lenses? Non-believers are the walking dead in our lives. Their spiritual life is dead and non-existent. When you are dead, there are no signs of life.
How do we reach the Walking Dead non-believers in our life?
One of the most impactful things that we can do to reach the walking dead in our life is to be Christ-like. If you have read my blog for a while, I talk about being Christ-like quite often. Before I decided to follow Jesus, I didn't understand what it meant to be Christ-like. I used to be a Christ believer, but now I am a Christ-follower.
Do we look at non-believers in our life as walking dead or unreached souls? It is easy to make judgments against someone and pass them off as spiritually dead. If you are honest with yourself, you know what I am talking about. We see people in our life that live so counter to scriptures that we instantly dispose of them as walking dead. We make no effort to reach out to them or try to show them God's love. Instead of leading them to the Lord, we bash them verbally as we turn into Rick Grimes.
Philippians 2:4 NASB “do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.”
Our brothers and sisters struggles should be ours as well. We are called to help others and show them the way to the truth. Stop regarding lost souls as Walking Dead and help turn those non-believers into Christ-followers.
