What is a new life resolution?  This time of year everyone is talking about making their New Year's resolution.  People are wanting to lose a few pounds, quit smoking, spend less money, be a better parent and on and on and on.  I'm sure these people have the best intentions when they embark on their resolution.  How successful are individuals in the long-term with the goals they set?  Many statistics say not very well.  What if there was one resolution that could have 100% failure and a 100% success every time it is tried?

I am talking about a new life resolution.  That sound crazy right?  Failing 100% of the time yet succeeding 100% of the time, how can that be?  I am talking about finding Jesus.

What does the Bible say about a new life resolution?

As sinners we all fail, we always fall short of the glory of God.  We are never perfect; we can't be.  This is why God sent his son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins.  Two verses come to mind that explains what I mean.

1 Corinthians 15:3 NASB “For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures”

1 Peter 3:18 NASB “For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;”

Only through Jesus dying on the cross, were we able to be saved from our sins 100% of the time.  Jesus bared the punishment for our sins so that we could enter Heaven.  Just think about how powerful this is.  If it were not for Jesus, we could never “fix” problems (sins) in our life.  We could make all of the New Year's resolutions that we wanted to, but we would fail 100% of the time.  Let's make a charge in our lives this new year by letting Jesus take charge.  Let's start a new life resolution or build upon our journey began in the past.  A new life resolution is the most important decision you will ever make.

Take it from a fellow sinner that has had to learn the hard way a few times, with God all things are possible, without God the wages of sin is death Romans 6:23.
