Showing love is a fundamental trait found in humans. Without love, our world would be a much darker place than it is. How do we make love a foundation for our marriage? I have been married for over twelve years. I can tell you that without love, our marriage wouldn't have made it. When love is absent from marriage, it will crumble quickly. I am not talking about a physical love.
Showing love to another in your actions and words will keep your marriage together. When you no longer show your partner that you love them, things will fall apart at the seams. Women especially need to feel loved. Love can be demonstrated through appreciation and recognition through our words and actions.
How do we show our spouse that we love them? I have been a kind and loving husband at some points in my marriage. There were some other times that I spent some time in the dog house. Showing kindness goes a long way to please your spouse. Helping with a chore without being asked. Sending your spouse a message to just tell them that you are thinking about them and love them. It is important to be proactive to their needs and listen to their desires. Focus on Biblically pleasing your spouse. How do we show love to others Biblically?
1 Corinthians 13:4-6 Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth;
Showing love is as easy as following 1 Corinthians 13:4-6.
The Bible lays out how to show love. We do it with our thoughts, and we do it with our actions.
If you are struggling with your marriage, consider this. Do you Biblically please your spouse? Do you put your spouse ahead of yourself and your needs? Are you selfish? Changing the way your mind interacts with your partner's mind can set a new direction for your marriage. The root of most marital problems comes down to selfishness and lack of Biblical integration into the marriage.
The bottom line is if you want to save your marriage you need to put your partner first. Marriage is not a one-way road. You can only work on your selfishness. There is a lot of times where thoughtfulness will be replicated by the other person if it is shown to them. Take the first step and start showing love to your spouse.
