With being a Christian comes responsibility. When you cross the line of faith, you secure your place in heaven. Upon becoming a believer, you now have a new responsibility in your life. Your responsibility is to share the gospel with others. This task might scare some of you that are reading this. If you are a member of the introvert crowd such as myself, it may be hard for you to share the gospel. Since I am not good at preaching to others, I figured this blog was a good way to share the gospel.
Why does it matter if we share the gospel with others? When I was younger, I thought that it was the pastors and missionaries job to share the gospel with others. I grew up in a home where I never saw my parents witness to other people. I assumed that there were particular people that God called to share his message. The only two people that I remember talking about God were my grandmothers. Both of these women let God's light shine out of them. One of my grandmothers would always walk around her home singing hymnal songs out loud. My other grandmother spent every last penny she had for the month making quilts for people in need.
What is our responsibility as Christians?
Mark 16:15 NASB And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.
I find this verse interesting. Jesus told his disciples to go to all of the world and preach the gospel. Notice how Jesus didn't say that only pastors and missionaries were the ones that should go out into the world. If you haven't figured it out by now, Jesus was telling all of his believers to go out into the world. That means that every person that proclaims your faith in Jesus is called by him to go out into the world and share the gospel.
Sharing the gospel may seem like a monumental task, but it isn't. We all have neighbors, friends, children, co-workers, class mates that we can share the gospel with. Anyone that you know that hasn't put their faith in Jesus is who we are supposed to be sharing the gospel with. Jesus didn't ask and say pretty please can you share the good news. Jesus commanded that we go out into the world and share the gospel with all creation.
Next time that an opportunity comes up in your life to share the gospel, I hope you will remember Mark 16:15.
