Do I find fulfillment in God? What makes me happy in life? I am sure that each of us has asked ourselves both of these questions at one point in time. I was thinking the other day about whether or not I find fulfillment in God. At this stage in my life, I can say without a doubt, yes. All too often we find ourselves searching for satisfaction in other things absent from God.
When you are in a slump, what helps you get back on your feet? Does going out to eat, taking a vacation or buying something make you feel better? See searching for things to make us happy only gives us temporary satisfaction. The feel good moment only lasts for a short while until the next big event. If you are trying to improve your life or get yourself out of a funk, there is only way to resolve your situation. Only when you find fulfillment in God can you get the peace that you are looking for.
Finding peace in “things” and people are not honoring to God. God can use “things” and people to work in our life, but the real healing comes from his hand in our life. I see many people struggling in their lives and searching for a happier, more fulfilling life. These same individuals even know God and have a relationship with him. What happens to these people is what I described above, not finding fulfillment in God.
Why does the Bible tell us to find fulfillment in God?
The Bible tells us that we need to be satisfied with God. See, God knows our heart and our desires. He created us to worship him. When we find satisfaction in God, we are honoring and worshiping him. Being satisfied by anything other than God is creating a false God in your life. God is the only God and our creator. The Bible tells us that God is a jealous God. When we worship things and people, it makes God angry. Below are a few verses I found on being satisfied with God. Take a look and see for yourself how your heart and mind can be satisfied in the Lord.
Psalm 17:15 NASB As for me, I shall behold Your face in righteousness; I will be satisfied with Your likeness when I awake.
Isaiah 58:11 NASB “And the Lord will continually guide you, And satisfy your desire in scorched places, And give strength to your bones; And you will be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water whose waters do not fail.
Psalm 37:4 NASB Delight yourself in the Lord; And He will give you the desires of your heart.
