Exposing lies is not an easy task. Depending on the situation and the person, the tangled web of deceit may take a while to unravel. The closer I get in my walk with the Lord, the more I am made aware of the lies that are all around me. Sometimes our lack of Biblical knowledge can allow us to miss opportunities to set the record straight. The Bible tells us that as Christians we will be exposed to lies and false prophets.
Jeremiah 23:16 NASB Thus says the Lord of hosts, “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who are prophesying to you. They are leading you into futility; They speak a vision of their own imagination, Not from the mouth of the Lord.
One thing that I have learned over the years is that it is hard to catch a lie if you do not know the truth. The more you dig into the word, the more truths will be presented with. It is incredible to read scripture and find truths that impact your life. Most of us are raised with the fundamental Ten Commandment knowledge. This list includes things like: don't steal, don't murder and do not commit adultery. When we only know the basics of scripture, we miss out on the full picture.
Exposing lies in our lives.
So I gave you a few examples of commandments by God for our lives. Let's talk about the topic of adultery. Many people think that the law only applies to the physical act of adultery. Without knowing the Bible, this same group may engage in viewing pornography. What happens is that the physical act is not committed, but the mind is committed to the sin. You might be asking yourself what do I mean? Take a look at Matthew 5:28.
Matthew 5:28 NASB but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
This passage in Matthew makes it clear that if our heart and mind crave the physical desire, we have sinned. God views our thoughts in the same light as physically carrying out the act. To guard ourselves against sin, we must remove the thoughts and feelings from our body. Believe it or not, the Bible tells us that we are guilty of sin if we think about sin. Exposing lies like this helps guard against us from sin. Satan loses the tactic of deceit when we are fully aware of what God expects from us. We can only find the truth in the Bible. I encourage you to dig deeper into the word and start exposing lies that have plagued your life.
