I read a story today about a ten-month-old who will be removed from life support tomorrow. The child whose name is Charlie Gard was born with a disease called mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome. Charlie's condition is so rare that it is believed that only 16 people have ever been born with his condition.
Charlie's family is from Bedfont, West London and they are doing everything in their power to bring Charlie to the United States for experimental treatment. See where Charlie comes from, the government controls the health care system. The doctors have determined that Charlie's life support be turned off so that he can “die with dignity.” Apparently surviving ten months with this condition is deemed inhumane in this part of the world.
Connie Yates posted on her Facebook page a few hours ago that the family has sought relief with the European court of human rights. Living under the rule of this medical system removes parental choice to care and allows the government to determine who shall live and who shall die. When the costs of life support or “die with dignity” come into play, the government can decide whether or not someone shall continue to live.
Why remove a living and alert child from life support?
Looking at this story, no one can fathom what these parents are going through. They fought to bring this child into this world. Caring and loving their child just the way he was born, only to have a government step in and order the death of their child. This behavior is horrible on so many levels. I cannot imagine anything like this ever happening to one of my kids. If I ever found myself in the position of the Yates, I would do everything in my power to save my child as well.
Proverbs 6:16-17 NASB 16 There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
Only God can save this innocent child from certain death. No bargaining or pleading with a government will ever give you the results that your creator will. I encourage each one of my readers to pray for this family. Pray that God will interject and his will-will overcome this situation. I will keep you updated on the situation as it unfolds and whether or not Charlie is removed from life support tomorrow.
