I'm a conservative Christian by nature.  Growing up as a child, I was not allowed to be conservative.  I grew up in a union house hold where both of my parents were strong union supporters.  Back in the early 90's, my family proudly displayed their Clinton-Gore yard sign.  We were a Christian family and went to Church every Sunday and prayed around the dinner table.

Fast forward to my college years; I set out to start my own business.  At that time, I would consider myself independent minded.  I did what I thought was right and I minded my own business.  Growing into adulthood, my focus on being a Christian took a back seat to the dawn of my new life.  See, when you have your own business, you are the guy in charge.  You get credit for everything good and bad that happens in your company.  You are the definition of “the buck stops here.”  I liked having control of my destiny.  Being free to work as hard as I wanted, gave me the opportunity to be successful.

After a few years in business, I started to see how government works against you as a business owner.  Your success is punished, and there are countless obstacles put in your way by an over reaching, out of control government.  Regulations and rules beat you down every chance they get.  The more success you get, the more you get attacked for your hard work.

Seeing what the government did to negatively affect my business turned me into the fiscal conservative that I am today.  My spiritual growth and desire to honor God's will formed me into a conservative Christian.  When you see so many things counter to Biblical teachings, how can you possibly support that type of behavior?

Turning to the Bible to form a conservative Christian.

Honestly, I never followed politics at all until I had my own business.  When big government started putting their hand in my pocket, I began to pay attention.  There is just something about stealing that gets me all fired up.  That same energy that started a fire as a business owner spilled over to my spiritual life as well.

Following the news on a regular basis, kept me informed of current events.  I started to follow stories that I never had any interest in before.  Everything from welfare to abortion was now of interest to me.  I took the news topic of the day and started searching the Bible for answers.  What I found is that most of the problems of today are discussed in the Bible if you just look for them.  Topics such as homosexual marriage are clearly laid out in the Bible.  Instead of not paying attention, I tuned in every chance I got.

John 17:17 NASB Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.

Why we must honor what the Bible says.

My newly formed opinions, thoughts, and facts were labeled by the media as conservative.  Somehow being a conservative Christian was a bad thing.  Through my Bible study and business experience, there was nothing bad about my beliefs.  Being a social conservative was pretty easy to do if you read the Bible.  All of the nonsense in society that said this lifestyle or that lifestyle is acceptable, the Bible says is wrong.

I think a lot of Christians that do not consider themselves conservative are in denial of Biblical truths.  Some of these same people may have never sought scripture to form a Biblically based facts.  It is sad to see brothers and sisters in Christ on the other side of the argument of life, marriage, and family.  An increased offensive causes the moral decay of society by Satan.  The first line of defense against Satan's work here on earth are Christians.  When Christian's are uneducated in Scripture, they make it easier for Satan to do his dirty work.

1 Corinthians 10:31 NASB Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

We are in a battle for the lost souls.

Being a conservative Christian makes me well aware of the role I play in God's kingdom.  Every day is a constant battle against the work of the evil one.  One thing that I know for sure is that souls are not being led to Christ by passive Christians.  If you are comfortable sitting on the sidelines, you are not playing a role in furthering God's kingdom.  If you accept the evil definitions of what society says is right, then you become of this world.

I encourage you to form your opinions and look for facts that are based on scripture.  Take off the blindfold and take your hands off of your ears.  Scripture doesn't change, and either does our God.

Hebrews 13:8 NASB Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
