I just finished up reading David A.R. White's new book Between Heaven And Hollywood.  I got the book from David a little over a week ago when he was the keynote speaker for the banquet at our children's school.  It was a fun experience to meet David.  For full disclosure, I didn't know who David A.R. White was until the school announced the banquet speaker.  If you are unfamiliar with the name David A.R. White, his company produced the movie God's Not Dead.  After finding out David was coming to our school, I did a quick Google search so that I could put a face with a name.  In the movie God's Not Dead, David plays Pastor Dave for those of you who didn't know.

In full disclosure, I do not have the time to read many books.  I often start a book, but rarely finish it.  In the case of Between Heaven and Hollywood, I was hooked after I started reading it.  I spent about an hour a night reading the book before bed.  I completed it in three days, so I would consider it quite engaging.  The book tells the story of David's life in pursuit of a career in Hollywood.  David tells his story of how he chased his passion for acting only to walk away from his faith.  Several things happened in David's life which caused him to start pursuing his spiritual walk again.

I found quite a few parallels between David's life and in my life.  In the book Between Heaven and Hollywood, David states that his first business was a lawn mowing business.  I too started a lawn mowing business as my first business venture.  David told of the ups and downs of his career, which any business owner could relate to.  When David was finally starting pursuing what God wanted for his life, everything started to make sense.  All of the failures and successes along the way created an environment which David was able to launch Pure Flix Entertainment.

Understanding the passion behind Between Heaven and Hollywood.

We all have things in our life which we are passionate about.  Our careers, hobbies, family, etc.  But where does God fit into the equation?  When we include God in our decisions and work to please him, our life will start to change.  Dedicating our life to worshiping and honoring God creates a new journey to embark on.  When our decisions are about us, we limit our ability to succeed.

Matthew 19:26 NASB “And looking at them Jesus said to them, “With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

When you read the book Between Heaven and Hollywood, you can see how God worked in David's life.  I would encourage you to pick up a copy of David's book if you are looking an interesting read.  There is some funny stuff in there that I am sure most of us can relate to.  Most importantly, there is a message of hope and the kindness of God's love for us.
