Believing without seeing is the biggest step that you have to take to start your spiritual journey.  No doubt, it is hard to believe in something that you cannot see with your own eyes.  Our society tells us that we don't need faith in our lives.  They say that there are things of this world that we should put our energy into instead of believing in a fictional character.  I would argue that it takes more energy for them to argue against Christ, then to follow him.  It takes more work and heartache to be against him than to follow him.

John 20:25 NASB  So the other disciples were saying to him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.”

Remember Thomas in the Bible?  He refused to believe that Jesus rose from the dead unless he could physically see Jesus. His faith was so little that even as an apostle he wouldn't believe.  Remember, this was one of Jesus' disciples.  He was one of the closest people to Jesus before Jesus was crucified.  How could someone that ate and drank with Jesus possibly doubt him?  See, faith is not about what you see; it is about what you believe.  We have a greater choice than Thomas did.  We can choose to believe without ever seeing Jesus.  Or we are weak in our faith and decide to believe in nothing.

John 20:29 NASB Jesus *said to him, “Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed.”

Believing without seeing takes faith.

Believing without seeing is recognized by Jesus as being blessed in John 20:29.  Oh, how Thomas must have felt when Jesus told him that those believing without seeing have more faith than him.

Why was the gospel written?  If you look at John 20:30-31, the gospel was written so that we would have evidence of Jesus and his works.  The books of the Bible have been written for us so that we could receive salvation.  These verses speak for themselves.

John 20:30-31 NASB Therefore many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.

Blessed are you that have faith in Christ without sight.
