I almost died today at work. It is never a good feeling when you are barreling down the highway pulling a load of equipment and your brakes go out. I hit the pedal as I was coming down a hill and nothing was slowing me down. Using the shoulder of the road, I down shifted and did a couple of other things to finally get the truck to stop.

I was working on a job right next door to a mechanic whom I knew. So after coming down the hill and getting the truck to stop, I was parked right at the mechanic's shop. You couldn't have chosen a better time or place to lose your brakes. All I could think to myself was God was watching out for me on that one. I decided to head to this property instead of a different property in the opposite direction. Something just popped into my head and told me to this property instead.

After I almost died today, I thought does God control our destiny? I am a strong believer in divine intervention. I believe that God has a plan and a purpose for our life. If our purpose in life is not fulfilled, God will watch over us and save us when we need to be saved.

When I talk about a purpose for our life, I am speaking about God's purpose. Our purpose according to us more than likely differs drastically from God's plan. Sometimes God saves us from accidents because it is his plan.

I almost died today, but I was saved.

My cousin passed away in a car accident about seventeen years ago. He was a Christ-follower, and it was God's plan for him to die in the crash. It was his appointed time to be called home by the Lord. No matter what we do, we cannot change the timing of God.

Job 14:5 NASB “Since his days are determined, The number of his months is with You; And his limits You have set so that he cannot pass.

Hebrews 9:27 NASB And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment,

The bottom line is, I almost died today, but I didn't. I didn't die because it was not my time to be called home. God had his hand over me and protected me from what could have been a life-ending experience. I praise God for his mercy and his work in my life. I am and have always been willing to accept God's timing for my life. Today's experience reaffirmed what I have always believed my entire life. God appoints a time for our life to end.
