Do Not Be Discouraged About Things in Your Life

discouraged

It is easy to get discouraged in this world.  Satan uses disappointment as one of his strongest tools to break down Christians.  We get our hopes up and become discouraged and disappointed when things do not go our way.  Instead of controlling our thoughts, we succumb to the personal torment of discouragement.

One set of verses that I lean on to over come discouragement is found in Colossians 3:23-24.  Instead of keeping the focus on us, these verses encourage us to focus on Christ.  When we do things for Christ, our disappointment becomes encouragement.  When we know that our work is done for the Lord, we reduce the stress that we put on our self.  Unrealistic expectations become obtainable when we make Christ the reason for our action.

Colossians 3:23-24 NASB Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.

Do not be discouraged, with God all things are possible.

The way that I describe being discouraged is simply not meeting our expectations.  There are two avenues that we can take in life.  The first avenue is to be humble and accept the outcome of things.  The second road leads us down a path of frustration, sadness, disappointment, and resentment.  Personally, I prefer the first way.  This is not saying that sometimes I choose the second path and end up with less than desirable results.

Matthew 19:26 NASB And looking at them Jesus said to them, “With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

The above verse in Matthew tells us that everything is possible with God.  This verse means that without God, nothing is possible.  God's will for our lives is what makes us successful.  Next time you become discouraged about your life, examine yourself and see if you put your trust in God.  If you find yourself lacking divine intervention, try to focus more on God than the task at hand.
