Youth Leader Accused of Molesting Children

Youth Leader

I was reading the news on my Facebook feed this morning like I always do and I came across an article about a youth leader accused of molesting children. This story got my attention because of the headline, and it was a local story. The news article stated that the youth leader molested many boys between 2006 and 2013. So not only did the alleged actions take place quite a while ago, they spanned several years as well. After reading the article, it was apparent that if this guy did what he was accused of, he is sick. The news article is rather graphic, so I am just warning you ahead of time. If you would like to read the full story, you can find it here.

James 3:1 NASB “Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we will incur a stricter judgment.”

Instead of taking this down a judgmental track, I just want to give you a few of my observations. First, God holds leaders on his behalf to a stricter judgment which is found in James 3:1. When you are representing God and leading his people, it is your duty as a teacher to step out of the temptation of evil. When you bring sin into the Church, you are welcoming Satan to run amuck. Satan's number one goal is to destroy as many lives as possible and keep people from salvation. When you bring your sin to Church, you help him destruct God's people.

Secondly, sin is a sickness. Sin is what separates us from God. If guilty, the youth leader accused of molesting children is obviously a very sick individual. Never the less, he still deserves God's grace just like each, and every one of us does. I remember when Jesus spoke of sickness in the Bible.

Luke 5:30-32 NASB The Pharisees and their scribes began grumbling at His disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with the tax collectors and sinners?”  And Jesus answered and said to them, It is not those who are well who need a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.”

Don't we all find ourselves walking through the doors of Church with sin at one time or another? Whether you are harboring ill will to another brother or sister in Christ, under the influence of an addiction or struggling with depression, God sees your sin as a sickness. We measure sins differently than God does. God sees our sickness and seeks to restore. That restoration comes from the blood shed by his son Jesus dying on the cross. Jesus came to heal the sick, not to call on the righteous.

Youth leader accused of a crime and a sin.

When you are human, you are innocent until proven guilty. This is the law for which we live under as Americans. God's law is different. When we sin, we are instantly guilty. We don't get to be judged by a group of our peers. Our sin cannot be removed by counseling, probation or prison time. We don't even have to be held against our will for an extended period.

With sin, you are released upon your repentance. When you bring your sins before Jesus and seek forgiveness, you will be forgiven. Nothing done on this earth or rules imposed by man can change the forgiveness. I urge you shed as many sins in your life as you can with God's help. Don't bring your sins into Church, instead put them before God. We need to pray for everyone involved is this horrible situation as I am sure that many people are impacted by what has happened.

Matthew 7:7-8 NASB “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
