Our children mimic us when we lead by example. The example that we set for them will ultimately shape their life into the adult that they will become. What kind of example do you want to be to your children? I have tossed around that question for a decade since the birth of my first child. It is a unique and humbling experience to have someone look up to you. If you have not experienced this before, it takes some getting used to. Even the most confident person will question whether or not they are making the right decisions. When we lead by example, we need to make sure that our focus is on God. When I was younger, I relied more on what I needed to do instead of what God wanted me to do. That way of thinking doesn't always yield the best results for you or the person that you are trying to lead.
Lead by example through the Bible.
When I decided to turn over my decision-making process to God, things got much easier for me. Instead of wondering if I was making the right decision, I now know that I am doing the right thing. When my words and actions are pleasing to God, they will, in turn, set a solid example for my children to follow.
One of the best ways that I can describe appropriate leadership is through this example. If you wouldn't do it or say it if Jesus was sitting right next to you, then you should rethink what you are doing. I'm human just like everyone else, and sometimes I forget to rationalize with myself in that light. The more that you train yourself to be Christ-like, the easier it will be for you to lead by example. Remember when you learned how to ride a bike? Once you have trained yourself to do something, it comes natural, and you don't quickly forget it.
