Too much self-confidence sinks the ship

Self-confidence is a dangerous tool, especially when you are so confident, you take out all the risks that come along with accomplishing a goal. The unknown exists in everything we do.

Just because you have done something once does not mean it will work the same way again, or even work at all. Too much self-confidence sabotages preparedness.

The Titanic was unsinkable, so they did not have enough lifeboats, they went too fast, and did not have the necessary equipment on board to see Icebergs. The ship became vulnerable to the damage from the iceberg and nobody anywhere to rescue them.

We are most vulnerable when we are overly confident due to too much self-confidence. We neglect the possibility that one event is capable of altering our life forever. That one event is often the catalyst to numerous other activities leading to failure.

Avoid having too much self-confidence

God wants us to be humble, to avoid having too much self-confidence. He wants us to be thinking about anything that might get in the way of what he wants for us.

Too much self-confidence takes away from our relationship with Christ. We are relying on our abilities and neglecting God. Life changes, it goes by fast, people change, and needs change. God wants us to be vigilant and seek him out so that we will be humble, and not overly self-confident in our actions.

We have too much at risk to be overly self-confident. Humbleness might be what saves you from disaster; it is what will save you from disaster when it matters. You'll pay attention to what God is saying, and what is happening as it happens.

If you are struggling, you might want to consider toning down overly self-confident activity and humble yourself.

“Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” Otherwise you are boasting about your own pretentious plans, and all such boasting is evil. Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.”
