When you think of teamwork, you might think of working with others at your job. Others of you may think of a sports team that needs teamwork to come together for a victory. Have you ever thought that being a Christian requires teamwork as well? Many verses in the Bible show us we should lift up and work with other Christians. The phrase teamwork when applied to Christianity means that we are all working toward the same goal. In this case, our goal is to spread the gospel to others while at the same time working towards the Kingdom.
My daughter plays basketball at her school. One of the things that I love about her team is that they work together. Since my daughter attends a Christian school, the focus is on developing Christ-like-character, not just winning the game. Her team demonstrates what Christ-like behavior is by their attitudes and behaviors they display to everyone in the game. It is essential to show your opponents respect even though you are not on the same team. It is just as important to show your teammates Christ-like character. Everyone loves to win. Winning gives you a sense of accomplishment and excites you to perform your best. But sometimes there is more than just winning. Sometimes we take away more by our behavior, then we do with a victory.
As a Christian, doesn't it excite you to share the good news with others? Part of being on God's team requires that you share the gospel with others. It takes teamwork to get the gospel shared at every corner of the world.
Teamwork requires participation.
Sitting on the sidelines is the easiest way to disconnect yourself from the team. Being part of a team gives you a unique opportunity to build others up. This same team is also there to support you when you need help as well. One of the most missed opportunities in the Christian community is being a closet Christian. We were made to fellowship with other believers.
Hebrews 10:24-25 NASB and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, 25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.
If you find yourself sitting on the sidelines, I encourage you to join the team. Active fellowship with other believers is a great way to help grow your relationship with Jesus. We are all the body of Christ. Do not let your hands and feet sit idle.
