The Power of Prayer in Our Life

Power of prayer

My Grandmother always told me about the power of prayer as a child. She was very close to God and dedicated her entire life to follow him. I remember my grandmother getting cancer when I was about ten years old. She went through several rounds of radiation and chemotherapy. I remember people saying that going through these types of treatments was going to be very painful. Knowing this, I braced for the worst when my grandmother started treatments.

During the treatments, my grandmother felt relatively little pain or discomfort. I was very happy to see that she did not have to suffer. I remember the doctor asking her what her secret was to keep the pain away. My Grandmother told him that it was the power of prayer. She was on a prayer chain at church, and her friends prayed for her regularly. She credited her comfort to God and the power of prayer she received while going through treatment.

How does the power of prayer impact us?

To understand the power of prayer, one must first believe. You must believe in the father, the son and the holy spirit. Without the trinity, your prayers will be meaningless. You cannot just pray to some random being or figure and expect results. God, the father, created prayer so that we could communicate with him.

If you believe in the trinity, then prayer should be a big part of your life. There are two types of Christians, believers, and followers. Believers acknowledge the existence of the Trinity, but never do anything with it. Followers believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus. They also believe that Jesus is the only way to God.

John 14:6 NASB “Jesus *said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”

What should we pray about?

When we pray, we reach out to God for conversation. Sometimes our prayers seek gifts and other times our prayers offer praises. It is important to remember that God answers all prayers. Sometimes the answer is no. Sometimes the answer is later. God is ultimately in control of how and when our prayers are answered.

I find that letting God have complete control offers the best method of prayer for me. I pray that God will make the best decisions for my life. When I let God take control, I don't have to worry about getting a yes or no. The anticipation of now or later is also gone. Putting God in the driver's seat releases a lot of stress and uneasiness. Since God cared about us so much that he breathed us into life, then why wouldn't we trust him? God will do what is best for us to further his kingdom.

Praising God for his greatness and wisdom leads to fulfillment in our soul. Never underestimate the power of prayer. With God all things are possible. We end up getting in our way by struggling with what to pray for and how to pray for it. Leave the process up to God and stop trying to control his will for you.
