Planting Seeds of Salvation in Lives

Planting Seeds

Summer is here, and by now most gardener's are done planting seeds.  If you like fresh produce from your garden, you have to plan to reap the reward in the summer.  In the past, we enjoyed two large gardens.  We planted an abundance of seed from zucchini, carrots, peas, beans, cucumbers; you name it.  Pretty much every vegetable you could imagine was in our garden.  That was back when life was a lot simpler.

Nowadays life is hectic.  As my children grow older, there are more activities going on that cut into my leisure time.  I am not saying that it is a bad thing, it is just the way it is.  So when we moved to our new house a year and a half ago, I had every intention of making a garden at our new home.  We intended to cut out a patch of our yard and make it a garden.  We have left over seed packets from our last garden and looked forward to planting seeds in our new garden.

Having the best intentions does not materialize into results.  Just like we cannot enjoy fresh produce from a garden without planting seeds, neither can we help others spiritual walk begin without planting the seed.  I assume that there are a lot of you out there that can relate to having a chaotic life. Young children, a demanding job, and volunteer obligations use up most of the hours in the day.  By the time you set down to relax, the sunlight is gone, and it is time to tune into your previously recorded DVR show.

Why should we be planting seeds of salvation?

Without the seed, nothing can grow.  If you do not share the gift of salvation with others that you have received, you are hindering an opportunity.  When you become a follower of Christ, something changes inside you.  The change that you experience is the fulfillment of the holy spirit.  Having the holy spirit inside you is not something that you keep hidden.  You want to share the good news with everyone you meet.

I understand that you are busy and some of you may not even know what to say or do around others.  But guess what?  At some point in your life, someone planted the seed of salvation for you.  They planted the seed that let you to Christ and forgiveness of your sins.  Planting seeds in others allow lost souls to find their way home.  Remember that the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few?  There is a lot of work to be done with your time on earth.  Instead of focusing on things that will not survive death, concentrate on things that will have eternal life.

Luke 10:2 NASB “And He was saying to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”
