Patience does not come that easy to some of us. We get anxious about things that are going on in our lives, and we want answers now. The worst part of any situation is waiting for the outcome. When we are impatient, we can handle a yes or no answer, just not the unknown. It kills us to wait for things to get resolved. But learning patience as a Christian takes time and work.
Psalm 37:7 NASB “Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who carries out wicked schemes.”
One of the best ways to overcome our impatience is to pray. Prayer reminds us that our trials are in God's hands, not ours. When we pray, it also helps us work through our problems in a Biblical manner. We should find comfort in knowing that God is in control of our problems from the beginning to the end.
Being naturally wired to be impatient comes with its set of challenges. Those of us with type A personalities tend to be more aggressive and have a greater sense of urgency. Not that being aggressive and urgent are bad traits, but they can have an impact on our spiritual life.
Having patience gives us hope in God's will. When we look to God and seek his wisdom for our struggles, it makes us depend on him. When we do not have patience, we put our hope in ourselves. Instead of depending on God, we seek to find answers for ourselves and concentrate on the fix. Some of the best life lessons that we learn are found through the struggle, not the result of the battle. The road to the resolution is more beneficial to our character than the result.
Learning to have patience through trusting God
I have found that when I trust God with my struggles, solution and all, it makes me more patient. Instead of demanding an answer now, I patiently wait for God to sort out my struggles. It is a lot less stressful letting God work on our problems then for us to try to fix them on our own.
Praying through struggles gives us comfort and helps put our mind at ease. There is nothing more fulfilling than having God lift a huge weight off of your shoulders. When we worry about every little detail in a situation, we keep God from having all of the control in our life. Trust me, when you let God fix your problems, you will get far better results than looking for an impatient answer yourself.
