Old fashioned God-Honoring relationships

What happened to the old fashioned God-honoring relationships? Say hello to online dating, and Facebook to put an ugly wrench into the tradition. Yes, online dating, which is supposed to make finding your mate that much easier, makes finding the one harder.

Don't the old fashioned God-honoring relationships happen online too? Maybe, but I doubt it. Online dating opens the door to quickly finding single people. A lot of single people, and gives you the opportunity to trade out who you are dating with ease. Jumping in and exiting a relationship is incredibly easy.

In fact, I don't know of anyone who is courting the old fashioned God-honoring way. I haven't dated anyone since my separation four years ago, with the divorce finalized three years ago. Why can't I be the one to change back to the old way?

I met my last wife through Match.com fifteen years ago. And, created another profile on Match.com but have not gone farther than sending messages back and forth. Online dating isn't for me this time around. But, the old fashioned God-honoring way is for me.

I'm going to let God pick the woman that is right for me if he picks someone. I say that, because it may be possible that I don't enter into another relationship. I have married and divorced three times.
Pure Flix has a movie called “Old Fashioned.” I watched the movie about a month ago with an enormous amount of appreciation. It is a guy who gave up dating around ten years earlier and refuses to even be in a room alone with a woman. He is honoring God, and committing to waiting for the woman he will marry.

Old Fashioned God-Honoring movie

A younger woman shows up at his shop wanting to rent an apartment he has above the shop. She rents the apartment, and she pursues him throughout the movie. She tries to get him to be in the apartment with only her, but he refuses, and she accepts his decision.

Last week, I ended up in a conversation that caught me off guard. The topic got personal, asking about a relationship I had, while the person I was with, shared about their relationship. Let's not go into any detail, on my part, and while theirs is relatively innocent, it was enough to shake me up a bit.

I have come to the point where I don't feel comfortable talking about intimate details of relationships. I also am to the point where unless I am going to get married, I am going with the old-fashioned, God-honoring plan. It is the only way I know how to find a woman that will make the kind of commitment I am willing to go in a relationship.

It's amazing how much God is making a difference in my life. He is working me over like you would not believe. Many times, like last week's conversation, leave me uncomfortable and struggling with my choices, but when I talk to God, we seem to come to an agreement that offers a brighter side to my future.

“Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” – Mark 10:9

So, while I am a bit unsettled about intimacy, I know that God will take care of that when He opens the door and shows me the woman that I am to be with for the rest of my life. I am ready for the old fashioned God-honoring relationship.
