Measuring Our Spiritual Life as Christians

Measuring our Spiritual Life

Measuring our spiritual life as a Christian is important to do.  We need to reflect on where we are and where we have been.  Not only should we see changes in our lives as we grow in Christ, but so should others.  Our journeys have many ups and downs, and it is a constant struggle to stay the course in our spiritual life.

Others are measuring our spiritual life by the fruits we bear.  Our actions as Christians are judged and carefully examined by nonbelievers.  I think the main reason for this is they are searching for something bigger than themselves.  If they see good fruits when measuring our spiritual life, they are inclined to follow our lead.  When we bear bad fruits, they see no spiritual replication in our lives and are turned from the word of God.

John 15:1-27 NASB I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.  Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.  Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me.  I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.  If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned.  If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.  My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples.  Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love.  If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.  These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full.

Measuring our spiritual life by the fruit, we bear.

Are we producing Godly behaviors and examples that can be clearly interpreted by nonbelievers?  Or are we utter failures in our efforts to shine a light into the world?  I have been a fruitless Christian in the past.

Knowing Jesus but never taking the time to share the good word.  This is one of the reasons why I started this blog.  It is one disappointment in my spiritual journey that I had to overcome.  In the end, I hope that with this blog I can share with people my experiences as a Christian and help them avoid the mistakes that I have made in the past.  Measuring our spiritual lives helps us dig deeper into the word and gives us some self-accountability for our actions.
