Do you find yourself desiring God or loving God? The world teaches us that love and desire are two identical things. Take for example relationships in our life. Do we desire someone as a worldly object, or do we love them because our heart is connected with them?
Sitting in Church today the question was presented “is love and desire the same thing? I never really thought about the two words having such different meanings. I thought about my life, and I could see where desiring something was completely different than loving something.
Take our relationships with our spouse for example. Do we desire them for worldly reasons or do we love them unconditionally? When we confuse desiring someone with loving someone, we are setting up ourselves for failure.
Lets take a look at John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16 tells us that a God so loved the world. John does not say that God so desired the world. If this verse said desired instead of loved it wouldn't make sense right?
If we say we desire our spouse, it is not the same as saying we love our spouse. When we choose our words, we must understand their true meaning.
When we desire God, it is not the same as loving him. Love is a connection where desire is a human pleasure. God created Love. In fact, that is why God created us because he loves us.
Don't desire God, love God instead.
To desire, God is only temporary. To love God is eternal. As our relationship with God grows, we switch from Desiring him to loving him.
Desiring anything in life is a short path to love. Once we reach the point of true love, can we finally get over the journey and turn our hearts into a reality.
