Are We Living Our Life in Denial

Denial

We are quick to judge others but slow to judge ourselves because we are in denial. One of the hardest things to do is quit blaming others for our mistakes.  We control our destiny no matter what our circumstances are because God gave us free will.  Free will means that we choose how we handle situations in our lives.  No one forces us to judge others; it just comes naturally to us.

All of our are guilty of being in denial about our actions.  It is hard to identify when we are in denial until someone points it out to us.  We are not very good about taking blame for our actions.  Our self-control is hindered by our desire to win an argument with someone else.

This kind of behavior reminds me of how Peter denied Jesus.  Peter was in denial about rejecting Jesus.  If you take a look at Matthew 26: 75 you will see how Peter denied Jesus.  “And Peter remembered the word which Jesus had said, “Before a rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” And he went out and wept bitterly.”

No matter how good our intentions are, when we are put under pressure, we end up caving.  We are human and being in denial is part of being a sinner.

How do we remove denial in our lives?

Jesus told Peter that Peter was going to deny him three times.  Peter even denied that he would deny Jesus.  Even when Peter was told that he was in denial, he still chooses to deny.

It is hard to admit when we are wrong.  It takes a great deal of inner strength to break the bondage.  When we deny our faults, we will end up like Peter.  Peter set the bar pretty high for rejection of self-responsibility.  We should learn from Peters actions and work on being more honest with ourselves.

We will always have time for self-reflection after our actions.  Having an accountability partner such as a spouse or close friend will help keep us in check.  This person can set us straight when we do wrong.  They can also show us what we are doing right.  It always helps to have someone who cares for us gently show us when we are in denial.  Through our conscience efforts, prayer and accountability partner, we can overcome denial in our lives.
