Is our God real or just a figment of our imagination? Is God real because we say he is real or is there proof other than the Bible? As Christians we argue in favor of God based on the Bible. The problem with this argument is that the person who you are debating does not believe the Bible is real. Right there is a non starter for an argument. If our goal is to challenge non believers, we can approach this in a couple different ways.
First it is important to understand that you are dealing with a worldly person. Non believers find their hope in many types of things. Their own intellect tops the list. Nature and evolution are a close second. Man made objects and fictional God's round out the list. How do we effectively argue our case against a non believer?
Lets take the topic of evolution for example. Creatures evolved over thousands of years to become what they are today. For the sake of argument lets say ok. If creatures evolved over thousands of years, who created the creatures that evolved? It was the Big Bang Theory that happened 13.8 billion years ago. Again, for the sake of argument lets say ok. Well who created the Big Bang? It was an explosion. Ok, who created the explosion? At this point you will probably have them walk away for the argument or throw a bunch of scientific terms at you.
Is God real? Here's the proof.
Just look at the world around you. Think how intricate every creation is. From the creation of a tree to the clouds in the sky. You can try to come up with explanations all day long for why these things exist. We can try to explain everything away. Ultimately everything was created by something. And that something was created by someone. Every thing in existence came from somewhere. You can only explain away the line of creation so far back. Eventually you will get to the beginning. At the beginning, there is only one explanation. A creator.
Is God real? Yes. The Bible shows a direct parallel to life around us. It gives clear explanation for how thing came about and why things are the way they are. If you run into a non believer, challenge them to read the Bible to disprove your belief. If they are so sure in their beliefs, they will take you up on the challenge. After they read the Bible, now you can have a serious conversation about God.
