Do you only go to Church on Easter Sunday?

Easter Sunday

Do you find yourself like many others that only attend Church on Easter Sunday?  Has the message from the pulpit chased you out of Church?  If you find yourself being drug to Church on Easter Sunday by your parents, then listen up.

There are many people like you.  Others that have been turned off by corporate Church.  Prayers that were never answered the way you wanted them answered.  A busy schedule has overpowered your desire to get up on Sunday morning.  I get it, I do.  We have all found ourselves in one or more of these situations, but some how we find ourselves sitting in the pew on Easter Sunday.  We may be at Church because we were drug there.  Some of us might have even wanted to put our time in so that we could be okay with God again.  Let me tell you, that today marks the most significant day in your life.

Today is the day that Jesus rose from the dead.  If you were in Church today, I am sure that you got that in the message from the pulpit.  It is a redundant message every Easter Sunday, but don't underestimate its importance.  This day marks the most important day in your life because when Jesus rose from the dead, he conquered death.  This means that you have a path to eternal life.  Before the death of Jesus, your sin would send you directly to hell.  After the death and resurrection of Jesus, you have a choice.  A choice to ask Jesus for the forgiveness of your sins or a choice to follow down the path of an eternity in hell.

You might be saying that I am too bad of a person for Jesus to care about me.  I am too broken.  I suffer from substance abuse; I was unfaithful in my marriage, I am a bad person.  What ever your excuse is, it is never too late to change your life.  No matter how dark of a place you are in, you can get out through the blood of Jesus Christ.

Still don't believe me yet?

In the Bible, Peter was one of the closest disciples of Jesus.  He was a rock and in his mind, not afraid to tackle anything.  That is until Jesus was arrested.  Jesus told Peter before being arrested that he would deny him three times.  Peter said that he would follow Jesus to death if he had to.  When tested, Peter denied Jesus three times.  He claimed to have never known the man.

Luke 22:54-62 NASB Having arrested Him, they led Him away and brought Him to the house of the high priest; but Peter was following at a distance. After they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had sat down together, Peter was sitting among them. And a servant-girl, seeing him as he sat in the firelight and looking intently at him, said, “This man was with Him too.” But he denied it, saying, “Woman, I do not know Him.  A little later, another saw him and said, “You are one of them too!” But Peter said, “Man, I am not!”  After about an hour had passed, another man began to insist, saying, “Certainly this man also was with Him, for he is a Galilean too.”  But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are talking about.” Immediately, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed.  The Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had told him, “Before a rooster crows today, you will deny Me three times.”  And he went out and wept bitterly.

Why Easter Sunday?

What sin could be worse than denying Jesus when you were one of his closest followers?  What if you could speak and walk with Jesus and see his greatness without having to believe in faith?  How could any of our sins compare to what Peter did to Jesus?  If Jesus forgave Peter, then certainly you can be too.  Don't let your hurts, struggles, and shame keep you from a relationship with Jesus.  Jesus loves you no matter what you have done or what you will do in the future.  Take a look at these verses when Jesus asks Peter three times if he loves him.  The reason Jesus asked Peter three times if he loves Jesus is that Peter denied Jesus three times.

John 21 :15-17 NASB “So when they had finished breakfast, Jesus *said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these?” He *said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He *said to him, “Tend My lambs.” He *said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?” He *said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He *said to him, “Shepherd My sheep.”  He *said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.” Jesus *said to him, “Tend My sheep.”
