Give of Yourself to Help Others

Help Others

There is no doubt that when you help others, you feel good inside.  When you do something for someone that can never repay you, there is a great reward that you feel inside.  As Christians, we are called by God to be kind to others.  Putting other people's interests above our honors the sacrifice that Jesus made.  It isn't hard to help others, in fact, it is one of the easiest things that you do to show God's love.

Philippians 2:4 NASB “do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.”

Today marked a special day for my daughter Kourtney.  She wanted to get her hair cut.  The last time she got her hair cut was about two years ago.  She wanted to grow her hair out to see how long she could get it.  After her brother had gotten a Mohawk, she decided that she wanted to change her style as well.  So my wife took her to the barber shop to get a little bit trimmed off of her hair.

People that know my daughter know she has thick, long, dark brown hair.  Her hair has always been beautiful.  In fact, when she was born, she had a full head of hair.

Help others with your acts of kindness.

After talking to the hair stylist, Kourtney decided to get more than a few inches cut off of her hair.  Since her hair was so long, she decided to donate her hair so that someone with cancer could enjoy her beautiful hair as well.  As a father, I am so proud of my daughter.  Kourtney is always doing nice things for others.  She always puts others feelings and interests above her own.  She reminds me so much of my grandma.  My grandma was the kindest, most dedicated Christ follower that you will ever meet.

When you help others, it shows the impact of the Holy Spirit upon your heart.  When your heart is filled with joy and kindness, it is reflected in others lives.  Kourtney told me that she wanted to donate her hair because wanted someone to feel good about themselves.  She understood that her small act of kindness could pay off big for someone in need.

A gentleman waiting to get his haircut saw what Kourtney did, and he wanted to show his appreciation for her.  After she had got her haircut, he gave her ten dollars to thank her for her kindness.  One good deed turned into another good deed.  When you show God's love, it spreads like wildfire.
