Forgiving Past Hurts in Your Life

Forgiving Past Hurts

Forgiving past hurts something that we should all try and work on in our lives.  Holding grudges against friends or family members is not a healthy way to live your life.  By forgiving past hurts, you are transforming your heart and mind in a Biblical way.  An unforgiving heart puts a divide between you and God.  No matter how good of a person you think you are, you are not immune from this.  I don't know your personal struggles or wrongs in your life.  Everyone has a different definition of what “they hurt me too bad to forgive them” means.

Mark 11:25 NASB “Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions.”

It is hard to grasp that our lack of forgiving past hurts in our life keeps us from God.  Think about this.  If God can forgive us for anything and I mean anything, who are we not to forgive as well?  As Christians, we believe in Jesus and his power to forgive us of our sins.  I am sure you can think of a few things that you have done in your life that was not pleasing to God.  You brought your sins before God and asked for forgiveness.  You were forgiven.  Shouldn't others that trespass in your life get the same opportunity as you did?

Starting the path to forgiving past hurts.

No one knows where you are on in your journey of forgiveness.  Only you can control that.  I can tell you that holding on to the anger and pain that someone caused you will tear you up inside.  You will be the victim of self-imposed torture.  Why not set yourself free?  Holding on to grudges can impact your entire life.  Your attitude can be negatively shaped to fit the mold of your hurt inside.  You can try anything you want to relieve yourself from these stresses.  Nothing will work until you let go.  Forgiving past hurts is not about making the other person feel good.  It is about changing your life and improving your relationship with God.  Things are not always fixed overnight, but I assure you the sooner you work on letting your grudges go, the happier you will be.
