Don’t Worry About Today or Tomorrow

Don't worry about today

Don't worry about today.  All of us are guilty of it; we do it every day.  Most of the times unintentional and other times as a worldly crutch to get us through the day.  Worry holds us hostage and keeps us from fully trusting God with our struggles.

Matthew 6:25-34 NASB “For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?  Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?  And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life?  And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these.  But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith!  Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.  But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Don't worry about today because tomorrow may be worse.

I know that it is easier said than done to give up worrying.  Don't worry about today because worry is a battle that we will struggle with our entire lives.  I have been there, worrying about every little thing trying to micro manage my life struggles.  When I finally got tired of getting nowhere and feeling helpless and empty I realized that I was not the solution to my problems, but the problem itself.  Turning your struggles over to God is a liberating experience.  Learning to trust him instead of fighting battles on your own will give you instant comfort.

As Christians, we get impatient and want answers immediately.  Part of trusting God with your worry is trusting him to fix things in his time.  It may take days, weeks or years but I guarantee you that he has not forgotten about you.  I know in my life I have seen countless examples of difficult situations made right years down the road.  We are too narrow-minded seeing God working in our lives during our time of need.  When we finally get on the other side of our struggle, we should be able to look back and clearly see that God was with us the entire time.  Keep in prayer and keep God close to your heart.  There is no struggle too big for God.
