Dealing with Disappointment in Life.

Dealing with Disappointment

Dealing with disappointment is a challenge for everyone.  There are times where we want to win, but end up losing.  Failures are a big part of living life here on earth. Finding and following Biblical solutions to life's disappointments is a challenging.  I guess the easy part is finding the solutions.  The hardest part is trying to develop the solutions that God gives us.

Why do we get disappointed?  Do we have unrealistic expectations?  Sometimes even if we do everything right, we still fall flat on our face.  One thing that I have ingrained in my children's heads is life is not fair.  When you children squabble about this isn't fair, or that isn't fair, it is safe to remind them that nothing in life is fair.  Hiding your kids in a bubble and leading them to believe everything is fair is called spoiling.  Giving someone everything they want does not set realistic standards for life.

It seems as if we have created a generation of children and adults that cannot accept the fact that life isn't fair.  Dealing with disappointment is part of becoming an adult.  We live in a time where disappointment is coddled, and success is punished.  Look no further than your child's school.  When I was a child (which was only a few decades ago), there were winners and losers.  It was unheard of to offer the losing team a participation medal or trophy.  Apparently being disappointed cannot be maturely conquered without a participation accommodation.

Dealing with disappointment Biblically.

Being disappointed causes anxiety in a lot of people.  You replay the event in your head and wonder what you could do differently to yield a different result.  Always beating yourself up over making one decision instead of another.  The Bible tells us not to worry or be anxious.  God has a plan and is watching over us.

Philippians 4:6-7 NASB Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Do you find yourself disappointed because you forgot to pray?  Did you pray and your prayers were not answered the way you wanted them to be?  Look at the above verse in Philippians.  God gives us peace.  Disappointment is a tool that the Devil uses to torment you.  Instead of moving past your situation, the Devil keeps you reliving the event over and over again in your head.  Move on and find peace in knowing that God has a plan for your life.
