When I think about the term bobble-head Christian, I visualize a person with no depth. Imagine a bobble-head figure stuck to the dash of your car. When you turn your wheel to the left, it turns its head with you. If you turn your wheel to the right, it follows you again. Accelerating or stopping also causes the bobble-head to move in line with your motion. After you finally come to a stop, so does the bobble-head. There is nothing special about this piece of plastic. Its foundation is held together with a piece of double-sided tape. It makes no sound and does nothing without something forcing it to move.
Do you find yourself being a bobble-head Christian? Do you lack spiritual depth? Is your foundation built on weak faith? Have you noticed yourself looking for acceptance from others instead of following Christ?
A bobble-head Christian is along for the ride, meaning that they do what they are told. There is one big problem with living your life like this. How do you know that what you are doing is right with God? When you blindly follow your Church, the leaders of your Church, friends, co-workers, or neighbors, how do you have full faith and confidence that you are right with God? The key to getting off the bobble-head Christian train is to read your Bible. If you do not know the word of God, then how can you possibly follow him?
A bobble-head Christian doesn't challenge the status quo.
If you are a Christian-in-name-only then how can you possibly live a Christ-centered life? We are not made to blend in with this world, but to stand out. Just like a light in the darkness, we are called to shine the light of Jesus. When you become a bobble-head Christian, you conform to this world. As a Christ follower, people should be able to see your spiritual fruits. These are things that make you stand out in the world and lead back to Christ. A bobble-head Christian is a yes man and does not want to stand out.
When you do not have a solid foundation, one would question whether or not you have a relationship with Christ. Being filled with the holy spirit should give you the desire to make Christ the foundation for all that you do. Just because you think you know what a Christian is, does not mean that you are one. A Christian is a follower of Jesus. To be a follower of Christ, one must have a desire to change their life. It doesn't make sense to confess Christ as your savior, only to turn back to this world. Only God knows your heart, and only he will ultimately judge you accordingly.
