Your Best is Never Good Enough to Get to Heaven

never good enough

Do you ever feel like your best is never good enough to tackle a task?  No matter how hard you work at trying to accomplish something, you just keep falling short.  Sometimes we fall short because of our lack of ability.  Other times outside circumstances get in the way of our goal.  Never-the-less, it is frustrating when we are not good enough.  We tend to be our own biggest critic.  When disappointment sets in we often think that we are never good enough to succeed.  This life is full of disappointments, but it doesn't have to be.

If you ask your average Joe that is not a Christian what it takes to Heaven, more than likely they will tell you that you have to be a good person.  They measure their goodness by how they treat people.  They also measure their goodness by the deeds that they do and the friends that they keep.  Many of the connections of what it means to be a good person revolve around secular things.  When you measure things concerning worldly goodness, it is pretty easy.  We create a scale of what is good and what is bad behavior.  Our actions are weighed against the results, and a label is placed on us.

Regarding the Kingdom goodness, there is no goodness.  When we try to quantify our good deeds to get into the doors of heaven, we will always fall short.  It only takes one sin to separate us from God.  That one sin keep us from an eternity of goodness.

You are never good enough to get to heaven without Jesus.

If you think your good deeds will get you through the gates of Heaven, think again.  If you have been told that others can pray away your sins in purgatory, it isn't going to happen.  Take a look at this verse from Romans.

Romans 3:10 NASB as it is written, There is none righteous, not even one;

The book of Psalm also tells us that there are no good people.

Psalm 53:3 Every one of them has turned aside; together they have become corrupt; There is no one who does good, not even one.

Psalm 14:3 They have all turned aside, together they have become corrupt; There is no one who does good, not even one.

We are never good enough to enter Heaven.  No good deed will get us there.  Only through the blood of Christ can we be forgiven so that we may enter Heaven's doors.
